How to choose the right feminized hemp seeds?

Recently, there has been a great increase in opportunity in the agricultural sector when it comes to Feminized CBG seeds and CBD seeds. And with the expansion of the CBD industry, the demand for feminized hemp seeds has reached the ceiling.

One of the most important things is to choose the right feminized cannabis seeds. By purchasing them at FENOCAN, you’ll have this issue off the table right away. We at FENOCAN are constantly source and develop industrial hemp varieties that are well suited for growing conditions in various hemispheres. Our focus lies on varieties that can withstand high heat and humidity and resist mold.

A lot of studies have shown that the right biotechnology and breeding program will produce plants that yield higher CBD or CBG contents.

There are various ways to feminize seeds, such as:

  • Spraying the plant with a silver thiosulphate solution
  • Through rodelization
  • Feminized seeds that are good mother plants

The spraying method is done by using a water-based solution that hinders the production of ethylene. In essence, ethylene is a very important hormone that is originally produced by plants to promote the flowering process. And by inhibiting ethylene, the flower production of the hemp is bypassed. This allows the reversal of the sex of the plants to happen.

There is a cannabis breeder named Soma that created the method called Rodelization. Basically, it’s a method that lets the unpollinated female plants have hermaphroditic traits. This allows the female hemp to fertilize itself by producing pollen sacs.

It’s recommended that a grower should use feminized seeds for growing hemp which is intended for CBD or CBG production. It is a tremendously good way to increase the quantity of CBD or CBG that is produced.

Do feminized seeds produce feminized plants?

Yes. If done correctly, feminized seeds produce only female plants  (99.9+%)The threat of accidentally pollinating crops by misidentifying a male is very small.

The predominant way to preserve the exact genes of a plant can only be done by cloning. But, crossing a plant with itself produces seeds that retain its parent’s preferred characteristics.

Another common technique is to hybrid two female plants. If a branch of one female is turned male, there will be pollen to fertilize the other plant. And this way it creates seeds when no male is around.

The pollen contains purely only female, or X chromosomes because the plant has no Y, or male, chromosomes. The children will inherit an X from the male flower’s pollen and an X from the egg donor female flower. The resulting seeds can only inherit two X chromosomes, which means that almost all the resulting seeds will be girls!
